Former Federal Cyber Leader’s New Role

Kemba Walden, a former federal cyber leader, has recently transitioned into an exciting new role. Walden previously served as the acting national cyber director at the White House for nine months. In her term of office, she spearheaded the implementation of the Biden administration’s national cyber strategy and drove the launch of a cyber workforce and education strategy. She is now assuming the position of President at Paladin Global Institute, a new endeavor launched by the Paladin Capital Group.

Emerging AI Threats: Signal from NIST

The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) has issued a stark warning about the potential risk of AI data poisoning by American adversaries. This high-alert advisory indicates that adversaries can manipulate AI systems, corrupt data, extract sensitive information, and introduce incorrect information into the AI system to alter its behavior. NIST, however, has also detailed several threat mitigations. Despite these deterrent strategies, NIST asserts that there are no foolproof defenses, indicating the severity of the situation.

Pentagon’s Response to Defense Secretary’s Hospitalization

In response to the occurrence and subsequent secrecy surrounding Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin’s hospitalization, the Pentagon is launching a 30-day review. It is crucial to understand why the White House, Congress, and senior Defense officials were not informed about this event. Jennifer Walsh, DoD’s director of administration and management, will lead this review. Temporarily, a new notification system has been put into place. In case due to unforeseen circumstances the Defense Secretary is unable to execute his duties, the chain of senior Pentagon officials and the White House Situation Room will receive an email notification. The nature of Secretary Austin’s health incident has not been disclosed.
